Data Protection and Control

Personal data relates to a living individual who can be identified from that data. Our secretary, Mr Eric Oliver, is currently Data Controller for Hinckley Unitarian Congregation. The Data Controller, on behalf of the Congregation, seeks to comply with obligations under the General Data Protection Regulation 2018. We may use your data for the following purposes: for us to provide pastoral care to members; to inform individuals of news and events organised by Hinckley Unitarian Congregation and/or taking place at Hinckley Great Meeting Chapel; to deliver services as requested through our congregational website/online presence; to process Gift Aid; to organise rites of passage ceremonies such as child naming ceremonies, weddings or funerals. Your personal data will be treated as confidential and will only be shared within Hinckley Unitarian Congregation as necessary for the functioning of our community. We would only share data with third parties outside of the congregation with your consent. We will retain your data for no longer than common sense dictates in accordance with relevant purposes (e.g. someone living abroad who attends the congregation when occasionally in the UK and who wishes to be kept in contact). We wish to respect your rights in relation to personal data as governed by law. If data is to be processed for new purposes this Statement will be updated as necessary.
What is the legal basis for processing your personal data? We will process your personal data only on one of the following grounds: that you have given consent; processing is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation; processing is necessary for the legitimate interests of the Data Controller (primarily archiving purposes provided for in law, e.g. related to births, marriages and deaths), except where such interests are overridden by the interests, rights or freedoms of the data subject.
