What is the current state of the various chapel and District websites, and how have they changed in the last year or so?
Two brief surveys of all those listed on the GA 'Find A Congregation' page are summarised below, showing the numbers of Active (Live) websites found at the time, along with once active but recently 'lost' sites, those which never had a site, and a count of sites which appear to have been newly built, or else rebuilt, in the period between the two surveys:
Conclusions:
Of the 200+ congregations or district associations which could have a website, there are many who do not have one at all, some whose site is out of date - but the picture changes all the time.
In 2007, of the 114 'live' websites found, 72 had their own design, 32 used the 'old' GA template, 2 used the latest multi-coloured template, and 8, in the East Midlands, used a template supplied by the district webmaster.
There were then 79 with no website at all.
The current situation is shown in the first table, below (which changes frequently)

What about 'Consistant Identity'? How many have used a template, how many are attractive, full of content, and up-to date?
With the usual Unitarian reluctance to conform to any single doctrine, it is debatable whether many would choose to use a prescribed template. 89 already have decided to 'go their own way', and many of those are very good, in many respects. Some are less good, but have one or two aspects that make them very interesting just for those parts.
The 24 using the old GA template, and 6 using the EMU template, suffer from a now rather dated 'look' and from the fact that each site has only a single page. One suspects that several of them have not been updated in a while, so that even the minister's name may now be incorrect.
The future?
The combined effect of these websites is that they are a means of outreach and day-to-day communication with the respective congregations. However, there seems a lot that could be done to improve matters.
