The Coseley Unitarian congregation was founded in 1662. The original chapel was built in 1717 with the schoolroom added at the rear in 1735. The schoolroom is thought to be the earliest record of a school in Coseley. Samuel Bourn & other church officials made it their responsibility to provide education for the children of Coseley who would otherwise have had no education at all.

The original chapel was demolished on 15th July 1872 & the existing chapel was built in 1874. Regular services have been held in the chapel since.

The chapel has its own burial ground dating back to the 1700s and with limited space still available.
