A Message from the Chair - Valerie Walker
Sadly, we were unable to meet last year (2020) for our always popular and well-attended Annual Summer Conference
because of the uncertainties and limitations of living at a time of pandemic.
A huge additional cause for sadness, and unavoidable change for our Society, was the unexpected death in early
May 2020 of our much-loved and respected President David Dawson.
Life has not yet returned to ‘normal’ and it has been agreed by the UMS Committee that the demands and pressure
of organising a full three-day conference while the future is still unclear were untenable. So our busy organising
sub-group has begun planning a One-Day Virtual Summer Conference, aiming to include as many aspects of our usual
gatherings as time allows.
As you will see, we have also been asked to provide a one-hour session at the Unitarian Societies Day.
We are hoping this will introduce many new people to our activities, as we also hope will our One-Day Conference
when we also look forward to giving a mini-tribute to David who was so important to the Society and who encouraged
and enthused young and old to make and enjoy music in many different ways.
